Digital Badges FAQs

A: Digital badges are web-enabled versions of a certification, or learning outcome which can be verified in real-time, online.

A: Representing your skills as a badge gives you a way to share your abilities online in a way that is simple, trusted and can be easily verified in real time. Badges provide employers and peers with concrete evidence of what you had to do to earn your credential and what you’re now capable of.

A: UPPCC partnered with Credly, a Pearson product, to provide a way to translate the learning outcomes you’ve demonstrated into a badge, which is issued and managed through the company’s digital badging platform.

A: Credly, is the end-to-end solution for issuing and managing digital credentials. Credly works with credible organizations to provide digital credentials to professionals worldwide. It also offers labor market insights, based on your verified skills. You can even search and apply for job opportunities right through Credly.

A: No. This is a service UPPCC provides at no cost to you.

A: You will receive an email notification from Credly with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account.

A: You can easily configure your privacy settings in Credly. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that is made public.

A: No worries! If you do not want your digital badge, simply disregard the email message you received from Credly.

A: While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on Credly. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a paper-based certificate. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.

A: You can share your badge directly from Credly to LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook; over email; embedded in a website or in your email signature. To share your badge, do the following:

1) Log into your account at https://www.credly.com/users/sign_in. If it’s your first time visiting Credly, you will be required to create a username and password. Keep this information stored in a safe place; UPPCC does not have any record of your Credly account login credentials!
2) Click on the badge you’re looking to share.
3) Click the “Share” tab.
4) You will be brought to the “Share Badge” screen where you can find different tabs directing you to connect to your social media accounts to share your badge.
5) Once your social media account is connected, be sure to allow Credly permission to your account (Credly will only post on your behalf when you share a badge!).

About MyUPPCC Accounts
The UPPCC application is available online and through the MyUPPCC portal. To access an application, you must first access your MyUPPCC account or create a new account. Once you have an account you will be able to access all available applications from the MyUPPCC dashboard area.

If you are currently certified, lapsed, expired, lifetime or retired – you already have a MyUPPCC account and should not create a new one. If you are or were ever certified, creating a new account will not permit you to access your certification information. If you applied or tested for certification in the past you too may already have a MyUPPCC and should also not create a new account. If you have never been certified or attempted certification in the past, you most likely do not have an account and will need to create one. The MyUPPCC system will prevent you from creating a new account if you attempt to use an email address to create your account that is already associated with an existing MyUPPCC account

You can click here or visit the UPPCC home page and click on the MyUPPCC button. You will be prompted to enter login information or use the Forgot Password/New Customer option. Clicking on the Forgot Password option will allow you to locate your existing account using the preferred email address on file. If you do not know the preferred email address listed on the account, please email [email protected] for assistance.

Visit the UPPCC home page and click on the MyUPPCC button located on the right side of the page, or click here. Clicking on the New Customer option will allow you to proceed with creating a new MyUPPCC account.

Job Analysis Process

A systematic process used to define the various components of work and the essential knowledge, skill, and abilities at a level required for competent performance in a profession, occupation, or role.

A job analysis for a certification program provides research-based evidence that supports the content of the examinations and its relevance to the profession. The result of the analysis is a comprehensive outline of content (a.k.a., test specifications, BOK, exam blueprint) to be tested of candidates for certification. The process provides a high level of assurance that what is important for competent practice in the profession is rigorously tested during certification examinations and that examinations are comprehensive, valid, and fair.

A Job Analysis consists of several activities and involves input from and expertise from professional test developers to guide the process. Input from public procurement subject matter experts are critical to accurately capture the essential work that are required to do. The specific steps include:

  1. Preliminary research and planning
  2. SME Panel Meeting
  3. Validation Survey
  4. Data Analysis
  5. Create/Update Test Specifications

The UPPCC conducts a formal job analysis process every five years. Scheduled periodic analyses ensure that the examinations required for UPPCC certifications continue to evolve along with the profession.

About Certification

Professional Certification is a voluntary, 3rd party validation of an individual’s qualifications. Qualifications for certification are typically based on established standards for formal education, continuing education and training, employment experience, and the knowledge, skills and abilities that are considered essential to successful job performance.

Education, training and employment experience are presented as eligibility requirements that are validated via an application process, while knowledge, skills and abilities are validated by examination. Those individuals whose qualifications meet or exceed the established standards become certified and are issued a credential, such as CPPO and CPPB and are authorized to hold themselves out to the public as certified. Certification requires periodic recertification to maintain the certification. Overtime, such credentials convey a level of excellence and prestige within a given field of practice.

The goal of certification is to increase professionalism in a field of practice. It identifies standards for practice, recognizes those who meet the standard and through recertification requires certified individuals to continue to meet standards as they evolve through ongoing professional development activities.

UPPCC is the only independent certifying organization for public procurement. The CPPO and CPPB are the only globally recognized certifications for the field and are widely recognized as the premier, independent credentials in public procurement. UPPCC Certifications reflect established standards and competencies for those engaged in government procurement and attest to the procurement professional’s ability to obtain maximum value for the taxpayer’s dollar. The CPPO and CPPB designations communicate to government administrators and to the taxpayer that the public employee managing public funds has reached a specific level of education and expertise in government procurement.

UPPCC Certifications are based on best practices for all of public procurement, not just specific laws and regulations within a specific state. UPPCC Certifications are portable and carry value in any state or province.

Individuals and employers who have completed the certification process through the UPPCC have sited one or more of the following benefits:

  • Professional recognition
  • Personal satisfaction
  • Increased knowledge through exam preparation
  • New employment/advancement opportunities
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Increased credibility with clients
  • Increased competency
